In 1540, Barbaro was one of the co-founders of the Accademia degli Infiammati in Padua. The Accademia’s motto was “Arso il mortal, al ciel n’andrà l’eterno”, and the device can be seen in this image from Giovanni Ferro, Teatro d’imprese (In Venetia, appresso Giacomo Sarzina, 1623), vol. II, p. 399.
Three letters from Barbaro to Benedetto Varchi, now preserved at the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale, Florence, mention the activitiy of the Accademia and can be seen here:
