Born 18.7.1831 son of James Skelton, W.S. [Writer to the Signet], Sheriff substitute, Aberdeen and Margaret Marjorie Kinnear. [Lawyer]

Career

Studied at Edinburgh University - LL.D. 1878.

Became Advocate in 1854, but more interested in literature - used pseudonym ‘Shirley’. [Lawyer]

Secretary, Board of Supervision 1868-1897 (retired).

Rector’s Assessor 1869, 1881-1884. [St Andrews University]

K.C.B. [Knight Commander of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath] 1897.
