Born 22.10.1843 at Auchencairn, Kirkcudbright son of John Mackay, plasterer, Perth and Janet Sturgeon.

Career

Also at Edinburgh University 1870 summer session as a medical student.

Studied for U.P. Church [United Presbyterian Church], but gave up. [Theology student]

Teacher of mathematics, Perth Academy. Mathematics master, Edinburgh Academy 1866 - 1904 (retired). [Teacher]

Publications on Geometry and Greek mathematics. Part of his mathematical library donated to St Andrews University.
