Born in Edinburgh 1813 son of David Thomson, Writer to the Signet, of Holekettle and Orkie and Lilias Milner. [Lawyer]

Career

Studied Edinburgh University.

Attaché at Tehran 1837. Chargé d’affaires Persia [Iran] 1849 and 1853-1855. Chile 1858. Envoy extraordinary and minister plenipotentiary Tehran 1872. Retired 1.4.1879.

C.B. [Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath] 1874. K.C.M.G. [Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George] 1879.

Death

Died Caerlee, Innerleithen 15.9.1883.
