Born 14.2.1831 son of James Stewart, farmer, Cordon, Abernethy, who may later have been coach hirer in Edinburgh and Jane Dudgeon.

Attended Edinburgh High School.

Career

Explored Africa 1862-1864. Free Church and U.F. missionary, Lovedale 1865. [Missionary]

Established Livingstonia [Kondowe, Malawi]. - one of Livingstone’s companions on his African journeys.

Moderator, General Assembly of the Free church 1899.

Death

Died at Lovedale [South Africa] 21.12.1905.
