From Kirkliston. Perhaps baptised 11.5.1833 son of James Samuel, Kirkliston and Janet Cook.

Career

Also at Edinburgh University - medical student 1850-1851, 1852-1853.

It has been suggested that he died young perhaps as a medical student, but another account claims he gained a prize in military surgery in 1851-1852 and that he married a sister of a George Rice, University of Manitoba. [Doctor]
