M.A. and M.D. 30.6.1775 on testimonials signed by Dr. Hugh James and Dr. William Buchan, physicians, Edinburgh. (Senate Minutes says M.D., but Quaestor’s Accounts show him as paying for M.A. and M.D.).

Birth/childhood

Born 24.5.1744 son of Jean Paul Marat, language teacher, Boudry, Switzerland and Louise Cabrol. [Teacher]

Career

Practised in London and Paris. Physician to bodyguard of D’Artois from 1777. Started journal ‘L’Ami du Peuple’ in 1789 and devoted himself to revolutionary politics. [Doctor, journalist, politician]
