Birth/childhood

Born 4.3.1754 son of John M’Leod at Brodie House, Nairn and Emilia Brodie.

Career

Also at Edinburgh University 1766-1769 and Oxford University - matriculated 1770.

Succeeded his grandfather as clan chief in 1772 (Norman died Strathtyrum 21.7.1772). Entertained Dr Johnson at Dunvegan 1773. Entered army 1774. Served in America and imprisoned by Washington. Then in India 1782-1789, rising to rank of Brigadier General. M.P. for Inverness-shire 1790-1796. F.R.S.E. 1790. [Soldier, politician]

Death

Died Guernsey 16.8.1801.
