Held various appointments as political agent etc. in Middle East and India.

Published on Persian dialects etc mainly in collaboration with his wife, Emily Overend.

Persian tales, written down for the first time in the original Kermani and Bakhtiari and translated by D.L.R. Lorimer and E.O. Lorimer; with illustrations by Hilda Roberts. (London: Macmillan, 1919)
