Birth/childhood

Possibly born 5.10.1777 son of David Johnston, Kettle and Mary Robertson. His father after success as a merchant at Gothenburg bought Lathrisk, Weddersbie and Bavelaw. [Landowner]

Career

Entered the army. Captain 9th Regiment. His elder brother having died he succeeded his father in 1809 [estates of Lathrisk, Weddersbie and Bavelaw]. [Soldier, landowner]

Added Rossie, Urquhart, Monzie and Largo to his estates by prudent management.

Death

Died 25.8.1868 aged 90.
