Birth/childhood

Baptised 10.2.1794 youngest son of Oliver Gourlay of Craigrothie and Janet Fleming.

Career

Went to Canada and then to a coffee plantation in Georgetown, British Guiana [now Georgetown, Guyana]. After some wandering settled in 1824 in Hobart, Tasmania as a merchant. He prospered and returned home in 1837. He settled at Craigrothie in 1850 and died there 31.10.1880 aged 86.
