Birth/childhood

Born 24.3.1778 son of Oliver Gourlay of Craigrothie and Janet Fleming.

Career

Farmed in Fife and Wiltshire. Went to Canada in 1817. Thrown out 1819, but had much influence on the history of Upper Canada. Returned to Britain then went to U.S.A. and again in Upper Canada in 1836. In House of Correction Cold-Bath-Fields for at least 19 months c. 1826. [Farmer, prisoner]
