Born 28.12.1835 eldest son of James Stuart Geikie, musician, Edinburgh and Isabella Thom.

Career

Studied Edinburgh University.

Joined Scottish branch of Geological Survey in 1855 and became Director in Scotland in 1867.

Professor of Geology, Edinburgh University 1871-1882. Director General, Geological Survey 1882-1901. [University professor]
