Birth/childhood

Born 17.10.1744 son of Andrew Duncan, merchant and shipmaster Crail then St Andrews and Catherine Vilant [daughter of Professor William Vilant].

Career

Also at Edinburgh University.

L.R.C.S.E. 1770. L.R.C.P.E. 1.5.1770. F.R.C.P.E. 7.5.1771.

Went on one voyage as ship’s surgeon to China. Practised Edinburgh and extra academical lecturer. Professor of Physiology, Edinburgh University 1790 - 1821. Founder and president Caledonian Horticultural Society. Established public experimental garden. [Doctor, university lecturer, university professor]
