Born 15.11.1785 son of Archibald Blair, minister at Garvald and Janet Barclay.
Career
Educated at Edinburgh University - medical student 1775-1776.
Surgeon Royal Navy 21.7.1777 etc. As first commissioner for the care of sick and hurt seamen he was instrumental in banishing scurvy by the introduction of lime juice. [Doctor]
Professor of Astronomy, Edinburgh University 1785 - 22.12.1828 (died). [University professor]
Inventor of aplanatic telescope.
