Born 15.5.1788 son of Alexander Arnot, Arbroath and Ann Maclean.

Career

M.R.C.S.Eng. 1813. L.R.C.P.L. 1817. M.D. Aberdeen 1814.

Surgeon H.E.I.C. naval service [Honourable East India Company's Naval Service] then practised in London. [Doctor, soldier]

Inventor and writer on physics - published ‘Elements of physics’.

F.R.S. F.G.S. Senator, London University.

Gave money to all four Scottish Universities to promote natural philosophy. £1000 to St Andrews founded the Arnot prizes and a further £1000 from his widow created the Arnot Fund. [Benefactor]

Death

Died London 2.3.1874.
