Born 19.6.1786 4th son of John Alexander, merchant in Gorbals and Christian Snodgrass.

Studied at Glasgow University - M.A. 1815 also at Edinburgh University - divinity student 1808-1809.

Taught humanity, Glasgow University 1814 - 1815.

Professor of Moral Philosophy, King’s College, Aberdeen 1819-1820. [University professor]

Professor of Greek 18.10.1820 - 5.6.1859 (died). [St Andrews University]

LL.D. King’s College, Aberdeen 1848.

Death

Died at St Andrews 5.6.1859 aged 72.
