Born 29.10.1845 youngest son of Sir George Biddell Airy, Astronomer Royal and Richarda Smith.

Career

Studied Cambridge University - Trinity 1863. B.A. 1868

Assistant master Blackheath Proprietary School 1868. Assistant master, Wellington College 1868 - 1876. H.M. Inspector of Schools, 1876 - 1910 (retired). [Teacher]

Publications mainly literary and historical works. Edited Burnet's History of my Own Time Vol. 1 (Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1897); Vol. 2 (1900); edited Letters addressed to the Earl of Lauderdale (Camden Society, 1883); The English Restoration and Louis XIV (New York: Charles Scribner, 1921); Text-Book of English History from the Earliest Times, for Colleges and Schools (London: Longmans, Green & Co., 1898) etc.

Death

Died 30.11.1928.
