Born Dunfermline possibly son of David Adam and Elizabeth Mailer.
Career
Accepted by Baptist Missionary Society 1815 and attended Bristol College 1815. Said to have been at Glasgow University 1816, but not in matric roll. Missionary India 1818. Was a close student of Bengali. In 1821 through influence of Rajah Ram Mohan Roy became a Unitarian. Appointed to enquire into vernacular education in Bengal. Reported in 1835, 1836 and 1838. Came to London 1838. Engaged in literary work. Publications.

Died 1879x1885.
