This passage is another linguistic tour-de-force. Rinconete displays not only his knowledge of cards but the language of the card-sharper. It is difficult to state an exact meaning for all of the terms he uses. This is because card-playing was notoriously subject to moral reproach, hence commentators on this most popular of activities would tend not to record games and terms objectively, but express their disapproval.
