Florencio Villarreal

Biography

Florencio Villareal (1806-1869) was born in Havana, Cuba. He came to Mexico and became affiliated to the Liberal Party. In 1854 he became a colonel and in agreement with general Juan Álvarez of whom he was a follower and General Tomás Moreno, proclaimed the Plan of Ayutla in this same year against Antonio López de Santa Anna. He was promoted to division general in December 1855. He fought in the War of the Reform against the conservatives, but subsequently recognised the Empire. Villareal died in Mexico City in 1869.
