Francisco Valdés (Zacatecas)

Lifespan: (? – 1870)
Profession: Bandit

Biography

Francisco Valdés (?-1870) was a bandit known as ‘El Ranchero’. He joined the party of ‘los tulises’. He took part in the taking of Durango in 1859 and the sacking of Santiago Papasquiaro and other towns. He hid out in the Sierra de los Mochis; where ‘los tulises’ were dispersed. He stole a number of consignments of gold and silver from the mines of Durango and Zacatecas. He succeeded in outmaneuvering the government until 1870 when he was defeated by Gerónimo Cumplido in el Llano de Los Anegados. Valdés was killed in this battle in 1870.
