Biography

Andres Terrés (1777-1850) was born in Barcelona, Spain. In December 1790 he began a career in the artillery section of the army. He participated in diverse military activities in various parts of Europe and America; he was in three expeditions, five sieges, an invasion and twenty five military engagements. He travelled to Portugal, Germany and Pomerania. Terrés originally arrived in Mexico to fight against the insurgents. After this he began serving the Republic and was a pronunciado of the Plan of Casa Mata (1 February 1823). He achieved the rank of general in April 1842. He fought in the Mexican-American War (1846-48) and defended the Belén gate entrance into Mexico City. He was also magistrate of the Supreme Tribunal of War and Navy.
