Anastasio Torrens

Biography

Anastasio Torrens (1790-1857) was a soldier born in Huatusco (Veracruz). He was Lieutenant of the Infantry in April 1812. He was insurgent who fought in fourteen military actions, amongst which was that at Soto la Marina. Torrens was a prisoner in 1817 who was confined in the penal colony of Melilla, Africa. He returned to Mexico and continued in the army fighting in the taking of Querétaro and Guanajuato in 1833. He was a Colonel and Major of orders under Nicolás Bravo and Juan N. Rossains. He was also a diplomat who attained the rank of General in 1854. Torrens died in Mexico City in 1857.
