Manuel Robles Pezuela

Biography

Manuel Robles Pezuela (1817-1862) was born in Guanajuato. He was a conservative and took part in numerous military engagements and uprisings attaining the rank of brigadier general in February 1859. He was minister of war from 16 January 1851-18 June 1852 under President Mariano Arista, and commander of Mexico City in 1858-59. Robles Pezuela fought against the liberals during the War of Reforma (1858-61), and backed the French Intervention (1862-67) and the imposition of Maximilian on the Mexican throne. However, he was captured by General Ignacio Zaragoza and was shot dead in San Andres Chalchicomula, Puebla in 1862.
