José María Malo

Lifespan: (1781 – 1848)

Biography

José María Malo (1781-1848) was a soldier born in Puebla. He began his career as Cadet of the Dragoons of Mexico. He initially served the Spanish Government and when the insurgents triumphed he went on to serve in the Mexican Army. In 1841 he became Major General of the Department of Oaxaca. In 1843 he became Commander General and fought in the Mexican-American War (1846-48). Malo died in Mexico City in 1848.
