José Manuel Micheltorena

Biography

José Manuel de Micheltorena (1802 -1853) was born in Oaxaca. He was a cadet in the Regiment of the Line of the Queen in 1816. He joined Iturbide in 1821 and the opposing forces against him in 1823. In 1840 he became Brigadier General, and in 1844, Commander General of California. He was Quartermaster in the Battle of Angostura-Buena Vista in 1847 and Commander General in Yucatán 1850 -1851.
