José Ramón Malo

Lifespan: (1799 – 1879)

Biography

José Ramón Malo (1799-1879) is thought to have been born in Valladolid (Morelia, Michoacán). He was the nephew of Agustín de Iturbide and his secretary in 1823. Malo accompanied him on his exile and returned with him to Mexico. He was protected by General Anastasio Bustamante, and later occupied posts of trust in the department of finance, in the chamber of deputies, and the senate. In Mexico City, he wrote ‘Historical Moments in the Exile, Return and Death of the Liberator or Agustín de Iturbide’, as well as his personal testimony, ‘Diary of Notable Incidents’ (1832-1864) arranged and annotated by Father. Mariano Cuevas, Mexico, 1948. 2 vols. Malo died in 1879.
