Antonio de Haro y Tamariz

Lifespan: (1811 – 1869)
Place of birth: Puebla

Biography

Antonio de Haro y Tamaríz (1811-1869) was born in Puebla. He studied law before becoming a politician. He was Minister of Finance (1844, 1846 and 1853) in the cabinets of Valentín Canalizo, Mariano Salas y Antonio López de Santa-Anna. During the 1854-55 Revolution of Ayutla he headed a movement which sought to crown Agustín de Iturbide’ son. Although he succeeded in taking possession of Puebla, Ignacio Comonfort’s successful siege and capture of the city, in March 1856, resulted in Haro y Tamaríz capture, even though he managed to escape. During the Three Years War (1858-60) he fought alongside the Conservative Party. He was a supporter of the Empire of Maximilian. He died in Rome.
