Francisco Hernández

Lifespan: (1786 – ?)

Biography

Francisco Hernández (1786-1850?) was born in Guerrero. In October 1810 Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla commissioned him to join the southern revolutionary forces. He fought in Tepecoacuilco in December of this year against the forces of Colonel Antonio Andrade. On 3 January 1811, Hidalgo promoted him to colonel. Hernández fought alongside José María Morelos y Pavón and later alongside Ignacio Ra¬yón, Vicente Guerrero y Pedro de la Ascension Alquisiras. As Brigadier General he supported the Plan de Iguala. In June 1831 Hernández was required to hand over to Nicolás Bravo in Chilpancingo the sword which Congress had granted him for the Battle of Molino. In 1847 he fought alongside Juan Álvarez against the United States invasion.
