José María Gutiérrez (Tabasco)

Biography

José María Gutiérrez (1806-1874) was born in Zamora, Michoacán. He settled in Colima where he established himself as a businessman. From 1828 he was active in the local militia He was a councillor from 1840 and a judge in 1846. He was a governor on a number of occasions between 1849 and 1853. Gutiérrez was postal chief administrator during the 2nd Empire as well as a local judge. He died in the City of Colima.
