José Miguel Guridi y Alcocer


Place of birth: San Felipe Ixtacuixtla

Biography

José Miguel Guridi y Alcocer was born in San Felipe Iztacuixtla (Tlaxcala) and died in Mexico City (Federal District). He was an ecclesiastical public official as well as an orator and writer.

A collegiate of the Seminario Palafoxiano de Puebla y del de Santos, he gained a doctorate in theology in 1781 and in canonical law in 1801. He was the priest of Acajete (Veracruz), Tacubaya (Mexico City) and the Metropolitan Sacrarium.

Guridi y Alcocer was also a representative in the Cortes in Cádiz from 1810 to 1812, and served as deputy in the constituent congresses of 1822 and 1823, representing Tlaxcala. He signed both the 1821 Acta de Independencia and the 1824 Federal Constitution.
