Manuel Céspedes


Profession: Regular Army Officer

Biography

Manuel Céspedes, (Dates unknown) was a soldier born in Havana, Cuba. He was originally part of the Spanish army who set off for Mexico on an expedition to fight against the insurgent forces. In 1821, however, Céspedes joined the Plan of Iguala. When at last Independence was achieved he set roots down in Mexico. He was Governor of the National Palace during the presidencies of Herrera, Arista, Lombardini and Comonfort. He was also Minister of the Supreme War Tribunal up until 1858 when he finally returned to Cuba.
