Biography

Antonio Carabal (1820?-1872) was a soldier who participated in the 1854 Plan of Ayutla and in the 1858-60 War of Reform. During the French invasion he took part in the military campaign in the Bajío and in the West. Being commissioned as governor of Durango, he marched to the north with Bento Juárez. When the French invaded this region they reassembled in the municipality of Guadalupe y Calvo in February 1865, from where they moved on to the capital of Chihuahua. In October of the same year Carabal travelled abroad for family reasons. On his return in October 1866, he was consigned to the Army of the North. Carabal attained the rank of brigadier general in November 1867. He died in Mexico City.
