Biography

General Miguel Cervantes (1789-1864) was born in Mexico City. He rose to the rank of Colonel in 1821 and served in Iturbide’s Imperial Guard, becoming Brigadier General in 1825. He was involved in the Plan of Jalapa of 4 December 1829, and backed General Anastasio Bustamante again, eleven years later, by supporting his government against the Mexico City pronunciamiento of 15 July 1840. During 1830 Cervantes was Military Commander of Apan, Texcoco and Chalco.He was military assistant to Agustín de Iturbide’s camp and captain of the Imperial Guard. In 1830 he was the Military Commander of the regions of Apan, Texcoco and Chalco and of Mexico City in 1832 as well as congressional deputy. In 1832 he was Governor of Mexico City.

He died in 1864.
