Manuel Cavero Carvajal

Lifespan: (1790 – 1855)
Profession: Politician

Biography

Manual Cavero Carvajal (1790-1855?) was born in Mérida, Yucatán where he also undertook his studies. Here he became part of the political group known as the sanjuanistas which was led by the chaplain of the church of San Juan, Father Vicente María Velázquez. Carvajal signed the document proclaiming the Independence of Yucatán in September 1821, as councilor of Mérida. One resolution of this plan acknowledged the established government in Mexico City.

He was member of the Senate of the State of Yucatán in 1828 and 1849. Also he acted as governmental secretary during the period in which the centralist government was headed by his brother José Segundo and he was secretary general and on several occasions internal governor of Yucatán. He was again secretary general on several further occasions, during the governments of Francisco de Paula Toro (1834), Baranda (1835), Sebastián López de Llergo (1835), Joaquín Gutiérrez de Estrada (1837) and Pedro Marcial Guerra (1837 - 40).
