Biography

José Maria Arce (1795-1841) was a soldier born in Chihuahua. He was head of the Chihuahuan military forces and held the rank of Lieutenant colonel when he signed the plans of San Pedro and La Noria which heralded an end to the struggles between Chihuahua and Durango. Arce was inspector of the Civic Militia in his State and head of the Northern Line in1835, during the invasion of the Apaches. He was killed fighting against the Indians in a place known as El Ojito, located between Resales and Chihuahua.
