Ignacio Arango

Lifespan: (1801 – 1872)
Profession: Printer

Biography

Ignacio Arango (1801-1872) was a printer known as the very first typographer of Michoacán "el prototipografo de Michoacán". Of Asturian ancestry he was born in Valladolid (Morelia) where he lived and died. He set up his first workshop in Morelia in 1838. Arango was Catholic and conservative and ensured his presses were used to print conservative pamphlets and texts. The bishop Dr. Clemente of J. Munguia contracted Arango to print his books. Likewise the most distinguished authors of Michoacán from this period also entrusted Arango with the publication of their works.
