Pedro Armendáriz

Lifespan: (1782 – 1850)

Biography

Pedro Armendáriz(1782-1850?) was a royalist who became a lieutenant in 1810 in the Compañía Presidial de Janos and also acted as assistant to Mariscal Salcedo. He moved to Chihuahua where he became one of the members of the war junta who sentenced Hidalgo and the insurgent caudillos to death. He is thought to have personally ordered the firing squad that killed Hidalgo on 30 June 1811. He carried on working for the royalist government in active military service up until1814. In 1822 he became part of the army in Santa Fe in New Mexico. He was a magistrate for the Supreme Court of Justice in Chihuahua during the years 1836, 1842 and 1845.
