Antonio Carillo

Lifespan: (1810 – 1883)
Profession: Hacienda Inspector, Magistate, Regular Army Officer

Biography

Antonio Carrillo (1810-1883) was born in San Antonio de las Huertas, Sonora. In 1832 he became an employer of the Commissary General. He was an hacienda inspector and Federal Deputy to the Congress which was dissolved by President Ignacio Comonfort in 1857. Carrillo was also a Magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice in Sonora 1862 and he was named Imperial Subprefect of the District of Hermosillo. In 1865 when French ships arrived in Guaymas to attack Republican forces and were eventually forced to retreat, Carrillo was an enthusiastic partisan on their side. At the time when they abandoned this region in 1866 he fled with them, taking refuge in Tepic under the protection of the famed French sympathizer General Manuel Lozada. Carrillo was later given political amnesty and he died in Hermosillo, Sonora.
