José Maria Alcozar

Biography

José María Alcocer (1811-1861) was a mining engineer. The brother of Ignacio Alcocer, he was born in Guadalajara, Jalisco where he studied at the College of Mining. Alcocer began his career as a teacher in the Guanajuato State College. In 1837 he became director in the Military Academy and in 1849 was in charge of the State Revenue Office. In 1854 he managed the construction of the road between Lagos and Guadalajara and in 1861 that between Guanajuato and Marfil.
