Description

István Hont (1947-2013) was an Hungarian-born historian of political economy. He was elected Fellow of Kings College Cambridge in 1978 where he co-directed the Kings College Research Centre Project ‘Political Economy and Society 1750-1850’, which resulted in the publication Wealth and Virtue (1983), co-edited with Michael Ignatieff. Most of Hont’s scholarly articles were collected and published with a new introduction in Jealousy of Trade (2005).

The Institute of Intellectual History organises the István Hont Book Prize for the best new work in intellectual history published in any calendar year and regularly holds Memorial Lectures.
