Colonel John Poley was apparently an English colonel in a foreign regiment in the service of Christian IV of Denmark-Norway in 1625. In July Poley was in negotiation for  money, ammunition and other expenses for his levy. On 18 August, Christian wrote to Joseph Averie [SSNE 2830] in Hamburg to pay Poley 1000 rdl  for his foreign regiment. On the same day Christian wrote a Latin missive a kreditive for Poley as Christian's agent to Charles I of Great Britian. Once there he spun a yarn about Christian IV defeating Tilly in battle which was, in turn, passed on by James Spens to Axel Oxenstierna in October that year.
