Colonel Sir John Burroughs was an English officer in the Thirty Years' War. He served as a sergeant-major in the Palatinate and was appointed governor of Frankenthal in 1621, surrendering the city on 14 April 1623. He may have then served in the Dutch Republic, in one of the Anglo-Dutch regiments, before being recalled in late 1626/early 1627 for the expedition to La Rochelle. He served as a colonel in the expedition, where he was killed. 

There was another Sir John Burrowes [SSNE 8161] who had been serving in the Anglo-Dutch Brigade since 1608, so there may be some confusion in the identity of the two men. However, Burrowes fought at Bergen-op-Zoom in 1622, when this Burroughs was in Frankenthal, so there appears to be two distinct men.
