Captain John Kinnimond was an officer in the Scots-Dutch Brigade. He first appears on record in 1609 when, as a lieutenant under Captain Oliver Udny [SSNE 8013], he married Janneken Jans van den Bossche, a woman from 's-Heerenberge. The marriage was witnessed by van den Bossche's father, Captain Hans. van den Bossche (MacLean, p. 15).

Around 14 April 1615, Kinnimond succeeded Captain George Ramsay for command of his company. In 1618, Kinnimond appears in the States of War with a company of 70 men and a salary of £1059. By 1621, with the end of the Twelve Years' Truce, Kinnimond's company doubled, and he commanded 120 men with a salary of £1655. Between 1622-1630, Kinnimond was commandant of the garrison at Cadzand on the southwest border of Zeeland and the Spanish Netherlands. By 2 December 1630, Kinnimond was dead and was succeeded by John Bellenden.
