James Erskine became a burgess of Stockholm on 30 August 1624, having first requested it on 12 June that year. James Gardner [SSNE 4922] and George Gardner [SSNE 7352] stood as his guarantors.
James Erskine was noted as accommodating another Scotsman, Hercules Cremont (presumably a merchant?) in 1626, but it is unclear whether he was hosting Cremont in a personal or professional (hotel) capacity. Unfortunately no quarter or street name is given.
In November 1626 James Erskine and fellow Scottish burgess David Anderson [SSNE 8484] stood as guarantors for Robert Corsen of London when he took the burgess oath in Stockholm. He also stood as guarantor for Johan Didrichson, cobbler, when he took his oath as burgess later that same month. In February 1627 James Erskine stood as guarantor, again along with David Anderson, for Andrew Nicol, tailor who was also probably a Scotsman.
