Jakob Skotte (James Scott) appears in the royal accounts for the court of Gustav I Vasa (reigned 1523-1560 and noted as a keen lute-player himself and enthusiastic supporter of musical performances). Skotte was in receipt of a royal salary for being a "musicus", or organist and cantor, at the royal court in the years 1556-61. Skotte's remit included working at Storkyrkan, teaching and composition. He also played a part in the coronation ceremony of King Erik XIV in 1561. Further, his unnamed son also participated in the coronation as 'discantor' (singer). There is some debate as to whether Jakob Thome(Thomas) was the same man as Jakob Skotte: Jakob Thome was appointed cantor in 1563 and also served at Storkyrkan, appearing in the church accounts for 1567-8. This may have been Scott sr or Scott jr..
