Andrew Gardner (known as Anders Gerner in Sweden) was the son of Albert/Albrecht Gerner [SSNE 7695]and his wife Maria Watson/Vadson, both of Scottish descent. Andrew Gardner was born in Stockholm on 18 November 1632.

Andrew Gardner was initially educated in Uppsala, and then went abroad to Königsberg and other foreign universities, returning to Sweden in 1651.

In 1651 riksmarskalk Magnus de la Gardie sent Andrew Gardner to Vienna to the Swedish emissary there, Mattias Bjornklou. Andrew Gardner remained in Vienna for well over 2 years.

Once back in Sweden Andrew Gardner was employed to tutor Magnus de la Gardie's son, Gustaf Adolf de la Gardie, and departed on a lengthy foreign journey which only brought him back to Sweden in late 1665.

In 1669 Andrew Gardner married Elizabeth Pfeiff, who was the daughter of Bishop of Reval Dr Johan Pfeiff, and the widow of royal secretary Johan Eberb. Schantz.

Andrew Gardner was appointed first secretary of the protocol for the senior Chancellery.

In 1671 Andrew Gardner was appointed 'politieborgmästare' of Stockholm.

At the 1672 Riksdag Andrew Gardner was elected as chairman/spokesman for the burgess estate.

Andrew Gerner was ennobled in 1676. His son, Andrew was born in either 1681 or 1682.

Andrew Gardner died on 23 February 1683 as a result of a poorly implemented blood-letting.
