JACK, ALEXANDER [SSNE 7364]
Text source
Alexander Jack was a Scottish burgess of Stockholm during the first half of the seventeenth century. He was the brother of Albert Jack, a copper merchant.
On 19 October 1625 'Sander' Jack appears before the Stockholm magistrates to respond to a charge brought by Hans Mildon; however the latter was ill so the case was postponed. The case had apparently been raised earlier, in January, when 'Albrecht Jake' (probably Albert Jack) was called to respond to an issue raised by one Peter Möller. On 26 October Albert Jack appeared before the magistrates' court and responded to Peter Möller and Hans Mildon, accusing them of not sticking to the contract they had agreed with his brother Sander Jack. This contract was to freight a 'skuta' to Dundee and back for a fee of 400 daler. Jack was seeking 100 Swedish daler in damages. Mildon claimed that the skipper (Jochim Slyter?) had been taken into the king's service, leaving Alexander Jack's goods abandoned, while Möller is seeking an extension to the agreed delivery. The magistrates decided that Albert Jack should authorise a representative to act on Alexander Jack's behalf and Mildon obtained the court's extension until Möller had returned. Finally on 23 November 1625 the magistrates' court noted that Peter Möller was in Rostock along with Hans Mildon and that Möller was serving as guarantor for skipper Jochim Slyter. Cargo had been freighted to Dundee. Four weeks earlier he had offered him(Jack?) a new hat for his trouble, but neither Alexander Jack nor his representative had been present! However, the skipper had been taken into the king's service for the second year running. Alexander Jack was now seeking 100 daler to be paid by the skipper's guarantor (whether Möller or Mildon). The Stockholm court agreed to this, adding that Möller and Mildon could seek reimbursement from the skipper once they got a hold of him. On 26 November Peter Möller appealed the fine, as did Hans Mildon, leading Alexander Jack to protest this development.
Alexander Jack appears in the Stockholm Kämnarsrätten records in 1658 when he, along with Thomas Annand [SSNE 7363] were involved in a dispute with James Jack [SSNE 7210].
