William Ross was born in Scotland in 1598 and moved to Vasa in Finland in 1627 where he died in 1648. According to some genealogists, William's father was George Ross who came from Kindeis in Scotland and who was in debt in Sweden in 1617. William Ross served as an assistant to the merchant Jacob Wolle in Åbo c.1628-36, and as a merchant in Vasa from 1634 until death 1648. He married 1) Margareta Wessel (Wazell), whose father Jacob was in Vasa already 1614. 2) Maria Lång, whose father Matts Longe (said to be Scottish) was in Wasa around 1614-35 and whose mother was Magdalena Henricsdotter Kämpe. Children: Jacob [SSNE 4940](1), spouse Margareta Bochmöller; Wilhelm [SSNE 7545](1), spouse Anna Bochmöller; Herman [SSNE 7305] (2), spouse 1 Margareta Jesenhausen, 2 Margareta Wernberg; Catharina [SSNE 7546](2), spouse Henrik Eggers (Eggert); Elisabeth [SSNE 7547](2), spouse Zacharias Werman (Wörman); Maria [SSNE 7548](2), spouse Matts Mårtensson; Of these children, Jacob Ross founded an iron foundry in Orisberg in Osterbotten in 1676 which he co-owned until 1694. Herman Ross (1636-1687) who was also both merchant and mayor of the town.
